MISSION OF OLV 100 YEARS AGO TODAY
On this day 100 years ago, then Archbishop of Baltimore, James Cardinal Gibbons, formally began the history we now share by granting permission for Fr. Yingling to begin the Mission Church of Our Lady of Victory. It was on this day that the first Mass of the Mission was celebrated in the Glen Echo area. Today is a day of quiet celebration: more prayer than party; more reflection that jubilation. Let us give thanks for Fr. Yingling and his successors, for those families and other individuals who worked with Fr. Yingling to "get the show" on the road. Can you imagine what that good Pastor would think were he to "return" for a visit? Happy anniversary! Now we being to ready ourselves for the spiritual journey to our parish's 100th anniversary of its formal establishment in 1909. This evening yours truly will be certain to secure pictures from the presentation of the 100 year mission status for several churches in the area. Let us pray for the future that we will be as blessed as our founding pastor, families and individuals were in their beginning works.
