Word was announced today that Cardinal William Keeler, Archbishop of Baltimore, was injured in an automobile accident while vacationing in Rome. With two life-long priest-friends, Cdl Keeler was traveling to Assisi when the accident occured. One of the two priests was killed. The Cardinal suffered a broken ankle. He was not driving at the time of the accident. Cdl Keeler had submitted his letter for retirement on the occasion of his 75th birthday as required by Canon Law. The Holy Father, however, has chosen not to accept the request as of this date. The Cardinal is scheduled to rededicate the original Cathedral in Baltimore on the first weekend in November. Obviously, everyone in Baltimore is the edge of their pews for the Cardinal.
