Trick or Treat

"Trick or Treat" These must have been the words on the lips of a number of priests and laity from the Archdiocese of Detroit on Saturday last when the Holy Father, in a rare Saturday appointment to a See in the United States (Tuesday is the customary day), appointed Msgr. Daniel Flores of Texas to be an Auxiliary Bishop for Motown's Cardinal Archbishop Maida. Pictured here you have the oldest active Prelate and the (very) youngest American Bishop. Early stories about Bishop Dan is that he is brilliant, personable, and has served as a well-respected seminary Rector. That the new Bishop said he did not sleep for two night once he was informed that the Holy Father had selected him to be a Bishop is a signal that the people and priests of Detroit might be the recipients of a "treat" not a "trick."
