DAILY REFLECTION: Thursday, October 19, 2006

Picking up on the 2nd Chapter of the NAC (New Adult Catechism) -- A covenant was, originally, a treaty. An overlord and a vassal accepted certain responsibilities toward each other. This notion became an expression in the Old Testament of God's relationship with his people. In our world there is a true drama: our culture has divorced itself from the gospel. These words are the sentiments of Pope Paul VI penned in his encyclical , Evangelii Nuntiandi, #20.
The NAC reminds us that religion is a part of any culture at a specific time in its history. We, as believers, need to understand that God's loving plan takes place in time. However, a culture that is "individualistic, secular, and materialistic" challenges our understanding "the starting point in God's Revelation" for understanding human history. How do I respond in faith to God's Revelation in such a world." Tomorrow there will be several thoughts for our consideration.
