DAILY CATECHISM STUDY -- 10/13/06

The concluding bullet of the doctrinal statements in the first chapter (page 8) previews the major theme of the second chapter: revelation. Our natural powers of reason can lead us to knowledge of God. A sunrise, a sunset: so often the source that opens something of my awareness of an all powerful creating God. However, we learn from Divine Revelation much more of the goodness and greatness of God. The AC defines revelation in these words: God's communication of himself and his loving plane to save us. This is a gift of self-communication, which is realized by deeds and words over time and most fully by his sending us his own divine Son, Jesus Christ. Public Revelation, which must be believed, ended with the death of the last Apostle. There can still be private revelation, which is intended only for the good of the person who receives it and does not need to be believed by others. (page 526)
