Today Some Years Ago

In 1942, WWII in full swing, the minimum draft age was reduced from 21 to 18. I guess you might call this a genuine example of need changing the laws.
In 1927, a few years before my birth, an event took place that made access to New York City much easier for people coming from the South. On this day the Holland Tunnel was opened to traffic. Could you imagine the face on the people there for the ribbon cutting if there were raised from their tombs and brought to the tunnel today, especially in the morning hours and again in the evening hours ... how many vehicles can be compressed into a tunnel?
