DAILY REFLECTION: November 24, 2006

Think a little on these words from the first reading (Revelation 10:8-10) from today's liturgy:

Take and swallow it [the Word of God. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will taste as sweet as honey.
How true! Taking the teachings of Jesus Christ and digesting them is far, far from easy. Food critics would give this kind of meal little more than half a star ... if that much!
To be a true follower of Jesus Christ means that we have allowed the message of Jesus to get inside our very being. A disciple is one who does all that is possible to identify with what Jesus calls us to do.

John's message is quite simple but truly a challenge ... perhaps a dare that many cannot accept in our culture where commitment is not so easily taken on. To allow the Word of God ... all that we are taught form Scripture, Tradition and the Teachings of the Church ... to be our daily food, our daily sustenance is, I believe, more difficult than daily exercise.
Why? Because nothing less than the complete transformation of my life is the main course of this meal!
