DAILY REFLECTION

Candlemas Day: The Presentation of the Lord

Well, we are now forty days beyond Christmas. It is officially the conclusion of the Christmas season today. Time to put the Christmas tree and other decorations aware for another even months. Can you figure why the time passes so swiftly?

In many places where religion has not become a weekend only practice, today there are processions and the blessing of candles. Jesus, today was brought with his mother to the temple: for her purification. Her obedience to the law. Jesus' presence with his mother at the temple and the meeting of Anna and Simeon. Each of these figures represents for us a lived out hope. Simeon had been promised that he would not see death until he had seen Jesus, the Lord. He went to the temple in hope. Anna, a widow, was always in the temple, worshiping Yahweh with prayer and fasting, hoping for all that Yahweh had promised.

T0day Jesus does not enter the temple. In the Eucharist, Jesus enters our hearts. It might be a good moment to reflect on my own conviction that we are truly blessed by God because of the eucharistic gift. If I know how great a treasure this is, would I not want to share in the Eucharistic as often as possible?
A thought for the weekend from Dr. Wayne Dyer: "Radiate an energy of serenity and peace so that you have an uplifting effect on those you come into contact with."
