In the first reading, Isaiah, we read or hear "Would that today you might fast so as to make your voice heard on high!" And this is the fasting that God would ask of us:
- releashing those bound unjustly
- sharing your bread with the hungry
- sheltering the oppressed and homeless
- clothing the naked when you see them
- not turning your back on your own
Reading these words, one must wonder what weight there is in not taking sacrificial offerings seriously.
