The Times They Are A Changin ....

On a weekly basis in our parish there is an experience of faith that many might overlook or be surprised to read about. We are blessed by the presence in our community of a large number of Filipino Catholics who come from Virginia, Maryland and the District to worship in prayer and community. Each 3rd Saturday of the month our Saturday evening liturgy comes alive with music and spirit as the "Filipino Group" brings their music, songs and presence to the liturgy followed by their evening of further prayer and conviviality in Hess Auditorium. During the octave days leading up to Christmas our parish was one of the nine parishes that Filipinos gathered to celebrate Simbang Gabi, the traditional Filipino preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
I was reminded of this unique spiritual gift the Filipino community brings to our parish by Whispers in the Loggia. The blogger wrote of a recent ecclesial experience in a church in Queens, NY. It is worth the read because the content should make most of us stop in thought for a time about the future of our Church and how it is going to survive! As the Pastor of Our Lady of Victory parish, I am most grateful to the Filipino communities that gather here to pray, to worship and to celebrate. You bring graces to the parish in many quiet ways.
