Today in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI presented the Pallium to 46 Archbishops from around the world. Among those honored was Archbishop Thomas Kurtz, newly appointed (not yet installed) Archbishop of Louisville (KY). The pallium is a kind of vestment worn by Archbishops who head archdioceses as well as the Holy Father. It is a symbol of the unity between the Holy Father and the Archbishop as well as the Archbishop's position as a Metropolitan (aka Archdiocese). The picture is that of Archbishop Kurtz celebrating a Mass in the Diocese of Knoxville, KY where he has served as bishop for a few years.
