
Mark's gospel presents a particular experience for Jesus on his journey. Knowing the Pharisees were doing what they could to bring about trouble, Jesus did not back down from his desires to do good for someone in need.
Place yourself in the synagogue with a young man who knew his journey would require conviction. No threats from others were strong enough to deter him from his purpose. He stands as a model for all.
Now start to consider contemporary situations that could easily stir up criticism or harassment in our world. Giving in to the modern conviction that abortion is okay; not walking away from the invitation to share drugs; giving into the temptation to pass over a Sunday worship obligation.
