Friday Reflection: January 25, 2008

Mark's account of Jesus calling aside those he wanted to be his apostles, the Twelve is the opportunity to look at ourselves as well as those called to be with Jesus in his mission, on his journey.

As Mark wrote, "... those he wanted." These men were chosen to be his companions and to be sent to teach with power to cast out devils." There are two parts of this important event in Jesus' life and the status of the chosen ones. First, to be selected as a person Jesus wanted with im is without doubt an extraordinary calling. For theman or woman who knows God is calling him/her to follow a vocation that includes a special relationship to Himself, the journey of life may be marked by genuine challenges. However, learning how to follow the journey will be a source of much peace of heart. Discernment will become part and parcel of the journey. Secondly, the selection of an individual by Jesus, by God, should speak to the person cosen and those who recognize the call in the lives of others. It reveals God's plan in peoples' lives. God has chosen or called these people because in them he has seen an effort to hear his call and a desire to be a faithful follower in whatever vocation that person or yourself chooosed to live while on this earth.
