Reflection: Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Don't grow tired of references to your spiritual journey or the use of the word "journey." Such a word dealt with regularly can strengthen us.

On our spiritual journey, like any journey, we should bring along not only items that we need but ideas or beliefs that are not so tangible.

One such belief is trust in God. No one makes a journey without trusting someone. Perhaps the one who watches over an empty house; the pilot of the airplane, the highway patrolman watching for the good of the traffic. These are just a few who elicit trust from us. On the spiritual journey trust in God is the principal support system that we should bring along with us.

A spiritual journey may have as many signs as there are highway signs indicating a speed limit or signs in an airport guiding us from the entrance to the airport to the airplane boarding gateway. We might consider if we take the time to follow the spiritual signs as carefully as we watch for the signs in the air terminal. Without them, most assuredly, we will miss our flights.
